digger
by
richard caravella
digger is a hungry little critter
who needs a constant supply of food to
survive. he spends most of his day
collecting food in the garden. digger
digs paths through the ground as he
collects the fruit, nuts and berries
scattered throughout the garden. but
life is not easy for our little friend.
he is constantly being chased by evil
grubs. these grubs are deadly, and
would just love to have digger for din-
ner- as the main course!/
as the game begins, digger will be
located in the center of the screen.
scattered throughout the screen are
fruits, nuts and berries, as well as
barriers, paths, and the evil grubs.
exits appear at the top and bottom of
the playing screen.
in the upper right-hand corner of
the screen the number of remaining
lives are displayed. the current
level, round and score are displayed in
the upper left-hand corner of the
screen./
you begin the game with four lives
and lose one each time you are eaten by
a grub. one additional digger is
awarded when you reach level ten.
each level consists of three
rounds, each screen is one round. each
level includes barriers which digger
cannot pass through. as you advance
through each level, the number of bar-
riers will increase. to advance to the
next screen, go through one of the
exits located at the top and bottom of
the screen./
points are awarded for each fruit,
nut or berry collected. point values
increase as you go from level to level.
as you move through the screen, digging
paths, five points will be deducted
from your score for each block of dirt
you dig through. it is not unusual for
your score to drop below zero. no
points are lost for moving through
paths which have already been dug. it
is therefore wise to pass through paths
which have already been dug./
from one to three grubs appear on
each screen. digger has one defense
against the evil grubs. he has an un-
limited supply of dirt bombs which can
be fired at the attacking grubs. dirt
bombs can only be fired through an
existing path. dirt bombs will not
travel through blocks of dirt. to
fire, press the fire button and push
the joystick in the direction you wish
to fire. points are added to your
score for each grub hit./
the game ends after all of your
diggers have been eaten by the grubs.
your score and the high score will be
displayed. remember, negative scores
are possible. if you wish to play
another game at this time, press the
fire button.
you may exit the game at any time
by pressing the f8 key. this will exit
you back to the uptime menu.
good luck!
